Location: Portland, Oregon

Joe is the inventor and original President of Oregon Saw Chain.  

  • He hitchhiked from Texas to Oregon and became a logger. During this time, he observed the unique cutting technique of the timber beetle and how quickly and efficiently they were getting through wood. This led to him inventing the first Chipper Chain.
  • In 1947, Joe established Oregon Saw Chain Corporation with four people on the payroll. By 1980, the company was manufacturing products across five countries, employing over 4,000 people.   
  • The modern chainsaw is now a mainstay for loggers, lumberman, construction workers, firefighters, disaster relief crews, homeowners, DIYers, and more.
